A roof-mounted wind sensor that protects open AOV ventilators from high-wind stress — automatically signalling the O Range panel to close once wind speed exceeds a configurable threshold, with smoke detection always overriding the wind-close command.
What it does
The WS400 continuously monitors wind speed at roof level. When sustained wind exceeds the configured setpoint, the unit signals the O Range control panel to close any open ventilators, protecting the actuators and the building fabric from wind stress. As wind drops back below threshold, the panel reopens the ventilators automatically.
The wind setpoint is configurable through O Range Connect and is typically set against the building’s exposure category, height and the actuator manufacturer’s permitted load.
Who it’s for
Specified on all exposed roof-mounted AOV installations — particularly tall buildings, open rural sites and coastal locations where wind loading is a significant operational concern. The WS400 is standard practice for any O Range SHEVS where ventilators remain open for extended periods of day ventilation or overnight purge and require automatic wind protection.
Integration
Connects to the wind sensor input on the O Range control panel. For combined wind and rain protection, pair with the RS 400 rain sensor or upgrade to the W400 weather station — which delivers both signals through a single device and a single wiring run.
