What Is the Golden Thread?
The golden thread is a digital record of all information relevant to the safety of a higher-risk building. It must be started at design stage, updated throughout construction, and maintained throughout the building's occupied life. For AOV systems, this includes design drawings, product specifications, test records, commissioning certificates, and maintenance history.
Who Is Responsible?
The accountable person — the entity responsible for the building's safety after occupation — is responsible for maintaining the golden thread. During construction, the principal contractor is responsible for ensuring that information is captured and passed on.
What AOV Documentation Is Required?
The golden thread for a building with an AOV system should include: the smoke ventilation strategy and fire strategy document; AOV system design drawings; product specifications and certification for all installed products; installation records and test certificates; commissioning records; and ongoing maintenance and service records.
